GOD’S GIFT: AN ARTESIAN WELL

INTRODUCTION: This Gift is the third baptism of the third foundation of Hebrews 6:1-2, John 4:10 (1-26). THE GIFT: A LIVING EXPERIENCE. The law of first reference is important. Definition: The gift is an artesian well. It satisfies spiritual thirst. It is the basis for true worship.

THEME: The Gift of the Father and the Son is a well of gushing water, rivers of living water. This gift is called the “doreA,” and appears only 11 times in the New Testament. All references are given in this outline.

One. ACTS 2:38 (37-42). THE GIFT: AND ITS CONDITIONS.

The atonement is its basis: first the blood and then the oil.

Repentance is a condition.

Water baptism is a prerequisite and condition.

Two. ACTS 8:20 (14-24). THE GIFT: AND ITS VALUE.

It is equal to the life Jesus gave for it.

It is above value of silver or money.

It is dangerous to have a low conception of its value.

Three. ACTS 10:45 (44-48); 11:17 (1-18). THE GIFT: AN EVIDENCE OF SALVATION.

The Spirit outpoured on Gentiles convinced the Jews.

The Spirit manifested in tongues convinced them.

The Spirit’s coming demanded baptism.

The Spirit’s acceptance demanded man’s acceptance.

The Spirit’s acceptance showed repentance was granted.

Four. ROMANS 5:15, 17 (12-21). THE GIFT: AND ITS BLESSINGS.

The gift undoes the effects of Adam’s sin!

The gift brings ABOUNDING grace.

The gift brings righteousness!

The gift brings authority to reign!

Five. 2 CORINTHIANS 9:15 (6-15). THE GIFT: ITS EFFECT ON GIVING.

The giving of the Corinthians was bountiful.

The giving of the Corinthians was cheerful.

The giving of the Corinthians brought thanksgiving.

The giving of the Corinthians was based on the doreA (v. 15).

Six. EPHESIANS 3:7 (1-13). THE GIFT: ITS IMPACT ON PAUL’S MINISTRY.

Paul had a dispensation of the Gospel.

Paul’s dispensation came through revelation.

Paul’s empowerment came through the doreA (v. 7).

Paul’s experience enabled him to preach with miracles.

Seven. EPHESIANS 4:7 (1-16). THE GIFT: ITS EFFECT ON OUR MINISTRY.

Members of the body of Christ walk worthily.

Members function by grace through the doreA (v. 7).

Ministry-gifts (v. 11) are empowered by the doreA.

Ministry-gifts develop members to minister.

Christ is built into His church in this manner.

CONCLUSION: HEBREWS 6:4 (5:11-6:8). THE GIFT: CARRIES A WARNING. The gifts must be developed; (Remember the unused talent!) it must not be neglected. Neglect of this gift brings strong judgment.

EDITORIAL NOTE:

The above outline came to me in 1947 in Canora, Saskatchewan, where I served as a student minister for the United Church of Canada.

It was the first of 100’s of Greek Word Studies prepared by my associate, DFS and myself.

The format in its preparation came unexpectedly in a split second on a Saturday of March 18, 1967. It took me two hours to write down the instructions of preparation that the Holy Spirit gave me. He required a merging of Englishman’s Greek Concordance, John Stegenga’s “The Greek-English Analytical Concordance of the Greek-English New Testament,” and Ivan Panin’s, “The New Testament from the Greek Text as established by Bible Numerics,” and the English translation of it.

I have trained some one thousand how to use these 3 texts in doing this labor of love. One of these was DSF, who did the greater part of the legwork in the preparation of these word studies. I have at times passed on his titles, and the Tentative Evaluation, but placed a disclaimer on some of them. The text itself is inspired. Both his notes and mine are subject to evaluation. We leave spaces so that you the reader can put in your own titles and evaluation if you choose.

I have been using the English and Greek Numeric New Testaments of Ivan Panin since 1945, and John Stegenga and Englishman’s Greek Concordance since 1967. Over 40,000 hours have gone into this production. Our prayer is that it might not only be a blessing to many of you, but that you may find it an effective tool to pass truth on to others. JAW.
